Why I Chose eXp Realty - And Why It Has Been the Best Decision of My Career
Making the move to eXp Realty is one of the best professional decisions I have ever made. And I say that as someone who spent years at a traditional brokerage before making the switch.
This post is not a sales pitch. I am not trying to convince anyone of anything. It is just my honest story about why I moved, what I found when I got there, and why I genuinely believe eXp Realty is one of the most exciting opportunities available to real estate agents in Canada right now.
If you are a real estate agent in Ontario who has been curious about eXp I hope this helps. And if you are a buyer or seller wondering what eXp Realty actually is and how it affects your experience working with me, I hope this answers that too.
Where I Started
I have been a realtor in the Niagara Region since 2011. Born and raised in Niagara Falls, this market is genuinely home to me in every sense of the word. I know every neighbourhood, every street, every school catchment area. Real estate here is not just my career. It is something I genuinely care about.
For years I worked within the traditional brokerage model. It worked fine. I built my business, served my clients well, and learned an enormous amount about this market and this industry. But as the industry evolved I started paying closer attention to what was happening with eXp Realty and what I saw genuinely intrigued me.
What Made Me Take a Closer Look
A few things kept coming up in conversations with agents I respected. The revenue share model. The cloud based structure. The agent ownership piece. The technology and tools. And frankly the community of agents who seemed genuinely excited about what they were building together.
I did my homework. I talked to agents who had made the move. I asked hard questions and I listened carefully to the answers. What I found was that the people at eXp were not just excited about commissions and income. They were excited about being part of something genuinely different in an industry that had not changed much in decades.
That got my attention.
The Revenue Share Model Changed How I Think About My Business
I want to talk honestly about revenue share because it is one of the things that makes eXp genuinely unique and it took me a while to fully appreciate what it means.
At a traditional brokerage you earn commissions from your own transactions. Full stop. When you stop working the income stops. There is no residual, no leverage, no way to build something that continues to generate value beyond your own individual effort.
eXp's revenue share model changes that equation. When you introduce other agents to eXp and they join the company you participate in a share of the revenue their transactions generate for eXp. Not their commission. The company's portion. And that participation continues for the life of that agent's career at eXp.
Over time this creates something that simply does not exist in traditional real estate. An income stream that grows as the agents you have introduced build their own businesses. It is not a pyramid scheme or a multilevel marketing structure. It is a genuine revenue share that eXp built into its model specifically to reward agents who help grow the company.
I am not going to sit here and tell you it makes you rich overnight. It does not. But over time, built thoughtfully and with the right people, it creates something meaningful. A business asset that has value beyond your next transaction.
The Community Is Real
I want to say something about the eXp community because it surprised me more than anything else about making this move.
Real estate can be a lonely business. You are largely working on your own, competing with other agents, and building your business in relative isolation. That is just the nature of the traditional model.
eXp is genuinely different. The collaborative culture within the company is something I was not fully prepared for. Agents sharing strategies, supporting each other, celebrating wins together. It sounds almost too good to be true for an industry built on competition but it is real and I experience it regularly.
The community around me here in Niagara has been a source of genuine inspiration, motivation, and support. When you are having a tough stretch someone in this community has been there and has something useful to say about it. That matters more than I expected it to.
What It Means for My Clients
If you are a buyer or seller wondering how any of this affects your experience working with me the honest answer is that it makes me better at my job.
eXp's technology tools are genuinely excellent. The marketing resources available to me help me promote your listing more effectively. The training and development within the company keeps me sharp and current. And frankly being part of a community of high performing agents who push each other to improve raises my own standards.
Your experience working with me is still completely personal and one on one. That will never change. But the platform I work from makes me more effective at delivering that experience.
Would I Do It Again
Without hesitation. Yes.
If I could go back and make the move to eXp earlier in my career I would. Not just for the financial model, though that is genuinely compelling. But for the community, the culture, the tools, and the sense of being part of something that is changing how real estate works.
I am proud to be part of eXp Realty. And I am proud to represent it here in the Niagara Region.
Thinking About Making the Move?
If you are a real estate agent in Ontario who has been curious about eXp I would genuinely love to have a conversation. No pressure, no pitch, just an honest chat about what the move has meant for me and whether it might make sense for you.
The Niagara Region is a fantastic market to build a real estate career and I would love to help you do that within the eXp community.
